Maisie Tothill Ball brings friends and family together
Purple-themed Ball held in memory of Maisie Tothill.
The Maisie Tothill Foundation held their third annual ball in memory of Maisie who died of SUDEP at the age of 22. The ball took place on 9th May at the Cliff’s Pavillion in Westcliff-on-Sea with over 135 people attending raising over £5,000 for SUDEP Action.
James Tothill, Maisie’s dad, said: “We held the ball in memory of Maisie as a key part of our fundraising activities. It’s an occasion to bring people together who knew Maisie, to remember her, share stories, reflect on and celebrate Maisie’s short life.”
The ball committee transformed the space into a purple disco-themed ballroom where guests were asked to wear something purple as part of their attire. The event also included a prize raffle as well as an auction to raise funds.
James said: “There was a great deal of work in preparation for the ball, but it was incredibly worthwhile! The fundraising is great, but the coming together in Maisie’s memory is really special for friends and family. We always reflect after the ball that it is odd that we can have such an upbeat and celebratory evening, despite the reason behind the ball.”
James also shared why supporting SUDEP Action was important to the Foundation.
“We feel that SUDEP Action’s profile-raising, research and prevention work resonate with the objectives of the Maisie Tothill Foundation. We have been working with the team at SUDEP Action since 2019 and admire their relentless energy and commitment to the cause.”
“If you have been impacted by a SUDEP death, supporting SUDEP Action will help bring some comfort by knowing you are making a difference by supporting this amazing team.”
