Marathon runner in-training on why she is supporting SUDEP Action
Sophie Yates shares her marathon training and why she is running the London Marathon 2026
“Challenging yourself for SUDEP Action is incredibly meaningful.”
Sophie Yates is one of our runners taking on the London Marathon this year on 26th April. Although very new to running, Sophie is looking forward to the opportunity to take part, she said: “I’m incredibly excited to push myself, step outside my comfort zone, and take on something that means so much.”
Sophie sadly lost her best friend Maisie Tothill when she passed away in 2019 at 22 years old. Sophie said “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about her, the memories we shared, and the impact she had in her short life. Taking on this challenge is my way of honouring her memory while helping to raise awareness and support others.”
“Her loss has deeply affected me, and everyone who was lucky enough to know her and I am determined to honour her memory by raising awareness and funds to support others affected by epilepsy-related deaths.”
When asked if she would recommend getting involved in a fundraising challenge she said: “Challenging yourself for SUDEP Action is incredibly meaningful, whatever the challenge may be. You’re not only pushing your own limits, but helping to raise awareness and support vital research that can genuinely save lives. Knowing that your efforts are contributing to something so important gives real purpose to the challenge, especially on the tough days.”
