Good luck to our London Marathon runners
This weekend on Sunday 26th April is the London Marathon 2026, where four supporters will be taking part for SUDEP Action.
Four supporters will be taking part in Sunday’s London Marathon for SUDEP Action. This includes runners who were given places in our SUDEP Action ballot; James Hewitt, Raquel Manfron and Sophie Snell, (nee Yates) as well as Sally Fitcham, who won a place in the London Marathon 2026 ballot and has chosen to support SUDEP Action.
James is a longstanding supporter of SUDEP Action having taken part in the Tuk Tuk to Turkey challenge in 2018, helping to raise over £150,000 as well as doing a half-Iron Man in 2024. He is running in memory of Emily Sumaria, his wife’s sister, who died of SUDEP, aged 19. James said; “Her family had never heard of SUDEP, and no one had warned them it was a risk. Since that moment, we’ve all been determined to change that.”
For Raquel, the London Marathon will be her biggest challenge yet having done smaller runs of 10km to date. She finds that running is a way to be close to her daughter; Caroline Moreno, who she lost to epilepsy over a year ago. Caroline said; “Every time I run, I talk to my daughter more than ever. We always pushed each other to go to the gym and go running, and that is why I don’t want to stop. I feel her very close to me. She will always be my sunshine.”
Sophie is running in memory of her best friend Maisie Tothill who passed away in 2019 at 22 years old. Although very new to running, Sophie is looking forward to the opportunity to take part. Sophie said “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about her, the memories we shared, and the impact she had in her short life. Taking on this challenge is my way of honouring her memory while helping to raise awareness and support others.”
We will also be cheering on Sally who is running in memory of her friend’s son Jacob Sunley who died due to SUDEP at 20 years old.
