Why I am donating regularly to SUDEP Action

Sarah Pearmain lost her life to SUDEP last year. Thomas, Sarah’s husband explains why he is a regular donor to SUDEP Action.
“The short answer for why I am donating regularly and why I have helped raise over 7k for SUDEP Action is because the day after my wife, Sarah, died was the first time I heard of SUDEP. If we had known about SUDEP, what it was, what it could do, I believe my wife would still be here.
If we had known that any type of seizure, at any point could take a life I firmly believe that taking the medication would never have been in doubt. Living with a condition that could take you away from everything on a whim is absolutely horrifying and, in some way, I am pleased that Sarah didn’t know because it may have changed the type of person shewas. However, having only had ten years with her and the fact she now doesn’t get to see our two wonderful children grow up is so difficult to bear that I wish we could go back to when she was first diagnosed and be made aware of SUDEP.
Therefore, in the wake of my beautiful wife’s passing I hope, by raising money and contributing regularly to SUDEP Action, someone or another family in a similar position might learn to understand their epilepsy diagnosis sooner and it might just save their life.
Sarah was only 39 when she died and, never anticipating an early death, neither of us had life insurance or a Will. I have changed that now of course, so should I pass away our children will be well taken care of. I have also arranged for a donation to be made to SUDEP Action in my Will so the word can continue to be spread.”
