Our Coffee Clubs: A safe space for bereaved families
You’re welcome at the Coffee Club by our SUDEP Action team and volunteers.

Losing a loved one to SUDEP can leave families feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and searching for understanding. At our Coffee Club gatherings across the UK, we aim to create a gentle, welcoming space where bereaved families and friends can connect with others who truly understand.
Held throughout the year, these informal meetups offer the comfort of a warm drink and friendly conversation in a relaxed setting. There is no pressure to share; some come to talk openly about their experiences, while others simply listen and draw strength from being among people who “get it.”
To reach as many families as possible, we host Coffee Clubs across the UK at different times. This allows families from various regions to attend when and where it suits them best, ensuring no one feels too far away to connect.
Our goal is to offer mutual support and remind families and friends they are not alone. Whether you’re newly bereaved or have been navigating grief for years, you’re welcome at the Coffee Club by our SUDEP Action team and volunteers.
Pierce Hallett-James, SUDEP Action Bereavement Services Officer said: “At SUDEP Action, we’ve seen firsthand how much these Coffee Clubs mean to families and friends affected by SUDEP. Time and again, people have shared how being able to talk openly, or even just sit quietly among others who understand, has brought them comfort and a sense of connection they didn’t think was possible. Many tell us these gatherings have been an important step in their grieving process, helping them feel less alone and more supported as they navigate life after such devastating news. It is a privilege to witness the strength and compassion that grows within this community every time people come together.”
Together, over coffee and conversation, families honour their loved ones and support one another through shared understanding.
