Honouring Hinesh with bucket-list climb of Kilimanjaro
Matt Brinkley and Preema Patel conquered Kilimanjaro to fulfil a wish of Preema's brother Hinesh.
Preema Patel and Matt Brinkley undertook a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of Preema’s brother Hinesh.
Hinesh was only 36 when he passed away due to SUDEP. Climbing Africa’s highest mountain was something he always wanted to do.
Preema said: “This climb was on Hinesh’s bucket list, and we had planned to do it together back in 2020 — but the pandemic forced us to cancel. We were determined to reach the summit in his name, just before what would have been his birthday. Hinesh lived with epilepsy his whole life, but he never let it hold him back. He embraced every moment, lived life to the full, and was always up for an adventure.”
Matt, Hinesh’s best friend, joined Preema on the eight-day trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro which is 19,341 feet above sea level. The pair had to undergo intense preparation for the adventure, including altitude simulation training.
They reached the summit on 16th September, a day before Hinesh’s birthday.
Together they raised more than £7,650 for SUDEP Action.
