SUDEP: Break Down Barriers

SUDEP Action has been working hard for three decades to break down the barriers that people face if they are living with epilepsy or are tragically bereaved through the condition.

As leaders in SUDEP and epilepsy deaths for over 30 years, we have pioneered new tools and been at the forefront of cutting-edge research as well as changed hearts and minds around what people think it means to live with epilepsy.

Our theme for 2025 is #BreakDownBarriers and puts the spotlight on the challenges that people with epilepsy face. This year we want to raise awareness of these barriers and what can be done to prevent epilepsy deaths today.

What is SUDEP Action Day?

SUDEP Action Day is dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy deaths worldwide.

Launched by us in October 2014 (as SUDEP Awareness Day), SUDEP Action Day shines a light on the largest cause of death in people with epilepsy and helps empower others through increased awareness. Funds raised by us through SUDEP Action Day will contribute to important work in this area.

SUDEP Action Day is also a time when epilepsy organisations across the world come together with one voice and one united aim.

We must encourage every person with epilepsy, their families and health professionals to be more aware of risks and to take an active role in discussing, reviewing and reducing them.

SUDEP Action Day is an opportunity to discover more about our organisation, what we do and how we do it. Throughout the week, from October 13-17, we will share stories and information and we want you to do the same, to raise awareness about epilepsy and SUDEP and spread understanding.
