Ryan Jones and friends complete Tough Mudder in honour of Rosie Carter

Ryan Jones, Brad Stead, John Pawley and Nathaniel Prince completed the Tough Mudder challenge in honour of their friend Rosie Carter on 26 April.

Tough Mudder is a 12 mile incredibly difficult obstacle assault course filled with mud, fire, ice and electric shocks. All obstacles are designed to test the physical toughness, mental grit and camaraderie of participants.

This was Ryan’s second challenge that he took on in memory of his girlfriend Rosie Carter.  Ryan said: “the event was very mentally challenging and the weather was not on our side. However, I did it with 3 close friends of mine and Rose and we pulled each other through when the times got tough. Rose was definitely laughing down at us and we succeeded.”

“The course was quite simply a mud bath with 20 different assaults. We helped each other through with a few injuries along the way. We all said that the final 4 miles were the biggest test of all, as the challenges became more intense and the weather became worse.”

John commented: "It was the hardest but most rewarding experience of my life. Being her best friends and Ryan being her boyfriend has meant we have all struggled to come to terms and deal with such a huge loss and therefore we hope to raise as much money as possible for SUDEP Action; who build awareness and supports those grieving”

“We all said that Rose was looking down, laughing at us all the way round. We managed to raise over £1000 for SUDEP Action, we hope that this will help such a close to heart charity.”

SUDEP Action Fundraising and Operations Manager Rachel Groves commented: “We are so grateful to Ryan, Nathaniel, John and Brad for completing such an incredibly tough challenge, this is truly remarkable.  As a small charity we are thankful for their generosity and incredible effort to raise awareness and funds to support our work towards reducing unnecessary epilepsy deaths.”

Ryan also ran the Reading Half Marathon earlier this year with Rosie’s family.  He plans to complete a triathlon next to help him achieve his overall fundraising target of £3000.  To sponsor Ryan click on the link to his Just Giving Page.
