January & February 2019
We love celebrating our fundraisers in our monthly blog. January and February had just a few so we have combined the two months together.
Soroptimist International Heswall and District have been supporting SUDEP Action with various events following making the charity their charity of the year last April in memory of Carolyn Sandland. In January they held a fun social fundraiser. President, Maureen Sayer informed us: “Club Soroptimist International Heswall and District Club started the New Year when a member opened her home to hold a social for the Soroptimists with mulled wine and refreshments. The purpose of this was to raise funds for SUDEP Action by donations at the door and through an Auction. Each member brought a disguised present with them which was then auctioned to the highest bidder. Much laughter ensued when each member tried to outbid each other sometimes by only 5p.”
Friends and family of Jack Hunt got together to remember. “On the 10th of February 2019 I did a birthday remembrance day for my brother Jack who sadly passed away of SUDEP in April 2018 at the age of 22.
I decided to arrange a balloon release and a bench reveal for what would have been his 23rd birthday. We released balloons in the local park. Then went to the local pub where we revealed a bench, that one of his best friends had made, with his name on the plaque, the day was a great success!” - Kayleigh Hunt
Aimee Dawes and her sister completed the Olympic Park Half Marathon! Aimee informed us: “I ran the Olympic park half marathon with my sister to raise money for SUDEP Action! I chose to raise money for this charity in memory of a close friend’s sister, who sadly died 2 years ago! The run went well, we are planning to do another event in the summer to raise more money and awareness.”
Thank you to our featured fundraisers. If you are reading this and took part in an event in February that you would like included then it is not too late! Email us on [email protected] to let us know what you got up to.
